I have the same issue! I found an incredible product called "Africa's Best." All you do is treat your hair with it at home and you get thin, straight hair permanently (until it gets cut off, of course). I definitely recommend it. Trust me, IT WORKS! You can get it at CVS or Walgreens or other drug stores.
