Hair loss durning pregnancy?

Hi all,

I'm 6 weeks pregnant for the first time. I have quite thick hair and i'm normally a "shedder". But these last few days my husband and i have noticed that i'm shedding everywhere and it just falls out when i'm combing or putting my fingers through it. This is a bit worrisome to me. On some sites it says it could be a mineral deficiency but i take all my vitamins and minerals everyday. What worries me most is that i have PCOS and thinning hair is a symptom but i never had it till now. Some input please???

I don't know what PCOS is, but maybe your pregnancy is aggravating it.

Hair loss during pregnancy is completely normal, no need to worry!

While hair loss is normal, most pregnant women enjoy thicker more full hair, it more than likely nothing but worth a mention to your ob/gyn

I would contact your doctor immediately. In normal pregnancies, hair loss is a significant sign that you are vitamin deficient. And water deficient!

Make sure that you're drinking plenty of water. It's very easy to get dehydrated during pregnancy. And hair loss does happen with dehyrdation.

I'm not sure what PCOS is, but I do know that whatever it is, it may be getting worse because of your pregnancy. This happens with a lot of medical problems that people have.

Remember, your baby is taking all the nutrients that it can right now. Whatever is left for you, is what you have. If your body is working double time to grow a baby, it could increase your symptoms of your medical risk.

Give your doctor a phone call. Chances are you may need medicine, or may need to be seen a little sooner.
