Lace Front Hair System (do you have to shave your head?)?

I'm fairly young with thinning hair but still have a decent amount. I would like to wear a hair system but do not want to be married to wearing it all the time.

I have been told the only way to do it is shave the top of your head. If I were to buzz it close but not shave it would it work? Would the tape damage my real hair?

hair system, as in a toupe? most likely you'll have to shave your head... have you ever tried sticking tape (of any kind) to your hair? it doesn't work.
